Dale Reckoning 13XX
Our heroes deal with the nefarious woman they have come to know as the “Bad Lady”, but she escapes their grasp once more by the thinnest of margins.
With the leads gathered from their encounter, they turn to Rod Longhammer for new threads into this web of deception. For a most generous offer, Masked Lord Constantine is given by Sir Rod information about the previous Lord he inherited the title from. It seems that this previous Lord had a right-hand man in his operations, a man known only as the “Lieutenant”.
Armed with this knowledge, our heroes watch for signs of this individual in the North Ward of Waterdeep, conscripting children as watchers and messengers for their task. With luck, they chance upon a suspicious caravan headed to the City of the Dead, or the Dead Ward as it is sometimes known. Following the right tracks, they find a half-buried mausoleum and gain entry through teamwork and skill. Inside, they used guile and cunning to dispatch the criminal elements within, discovering the source of the previous drake attack on the Masked Lords as well as solid evidence against the Hillod Mining Company.
Fearing that the suspects would go to ground once they find their operations compromised, Constantine orders that Tarn Hillod, the head of the mining family be apprehended immediately for charges against Waterdeep. With such a powerful and influential group part of this conspiracy, the Open Lord Paladinson convenes a meeting of all the Lords of Waterdeep to address this situation. With a deadlock in the proceedings, and suggestions from external sources, Paladinson is forced to escalate matters as he calls an emergency meeting of the Lord’s Alliance.
The individuals in this meeting are great indeed, with Lord Nasher Alagondar and Aribeth of Neverwinter representing their state, with the famed Hero of Neverwinter part of their retinue. It is soon found out that Tarn Hillod has fled from Waterdeep to Neverwinter, forcing the hand of Lord Nasher as he sends Neverwinter’s Hero in pursuit.
The Lord’s Alliance could not be struck at a worse time: With a weakened Neverwinter Army, Waterdeep’s influential groups taking part in seditious acts and Baldur’s Gate still reeling from the Baalspawn incident, they are vulnerable indeed at this critical moment as enemies from the south poise to exploit any weaknesses from their northern enemies.
The task falls then to our heroes, new and old, to defend the free states of the Sword Coast from enemies within and without.
